Bundesliga - Bayern beat Nuremberg to go third
Eurosport - Sat, 19 Sep 17:28:00 2009
Bayern Munich defender Daniel van Buyten headed in a cross eight minutes from time to give his team a 2-1 victory over promoted Nuremberg and lift them to third place in the Bundesliga.
Germany's record champions have now won three league matches in a row after their worst start of the season in decades and are just two points behind leaders Hamburg SV and Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern initially found it hard going against a crowded Nuremberg defence but continued to press and it only looked a matter of time until they scored.
Striker Ivica Olic and Thomas Mueller missed clear chances before Mario Gomez thought he had scored in the 31st when his shot bounced off the crossbar onto the line. The referee rightly waved play on.
It took Bayern only nine minutes after the re-start to take the lead when Olic slotted home after Mueller cleverly chipped the ball into the Croatian's path in the box.
Nuremberg surprisingly levelled with a swift attack on 73 minutes when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting chased down a pass on the right to fire home before Belgian van Buyten rose to head in an Arjen Robben cross for the winner nine minutes later.
"We did not play very well against a well organised team with a lot of people at the back," Bayern coach Louis van Gaal said.
"If you play such a defensive team then you have to bring the ball into the box and we scored a beautiful goal (through van Buyten). Now we must beat Hamburg next week and then I will be satisfied," the Dutchman said.
Hoffenheim joined Bayern on 11 points after scoring three goals in the final five minutes for a 4-2 win over hosts Borussia Moenchengladbach, who had taken a 2-0 lead.
Brazilian Maicosuel made it 2-2 on 86 minutes before Chinedu Obasi and Demba Ba added two more to complete a stunning comeback for Hoffenheim.
Visitors Cologne beat VfB Stuttgart 2-0 to record the first win of what has so far been a miserable season and move a place above the relegation zone.

Champions League - Grafite stuns CSKA
Eurosport - Tue, 15 Sep 22:53:00 2009
Brazilian striker Grafite scored a hat-trick to steer German champions VfL Wolfsburg, making their first Champions League appearance, to a 3-1 win over CSKA Moscow in Group B.
Grafite's quality proved the difference between the sides in an entertaining match which put the German champions level at the top of the Group B standings with Manchester United.
Wolfsburg's Christian Gentner made two early attempts on goal but the hosts, starting with three strikers, had to wait until late in the half to celebrate.
Grafite, last season's Bundesliga top scorer and making his competition debut, chased down a Zvjezdan Misimovic through ball to slot home on 35 minutes.
Five minutes later he converted a penalty he had won, coolly sending keeper Igor Akinfeyev the wrong way to double the lead.
Moscow, largely toothless in the first half, pressed the Germans after the break and pulled one back when striker Guilherme set up Alan Dzagoev on the right to fire home.
New Moscow coach Juande Ramos, who replaced Brazilian Zico only five days ago, ordered his players to pour forward and even added another striker in the final six minutes in search of an equaliser.
Nika Piliev and Dzagoev came agonising close before Grafite sealed Wolfsburg's win three minutes from time, picking up a Marcel Schaefer pass in the box and turning well to beat keeper Igor Akinfeyev for a third time.

Bundesliga - Round-up: Hamburg stay top
Eurosport -
Hamburg clung on at the top of the Bundesliga with a 3-1 win over Stuttgart.
FOOTBALL 2009-2010 Bundesliga Hamburger SV Hamburger SV - VfB Stuttgart Zé Roberto Mathijsen Jarolim
Goals from Mladen Petric, Eljero Elia and Ze Roberto were enough for unbeaten Hamburg to see off Stuttgart and keep them ahead of Bayer Leverkusen on goal difference.
Hamburg grabbed the lead against the run of play when Petric beat Stuttgart keeper Jens Lehmann with a fierce drive from about 20 yards.
Hamburg, missing Paolo Guerrero and Collin Benjamin with ligament injuries, added another through Elia's long-range effort in the 58th minute.
Stuttgart pulled one back through Pavel Pogrebnyak four minutes later before Ze Roberto secured victory for Hamburg with a goal in added time.
"This club is alive," said Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia. "It may be just the picture of this very moment but it is wonderful to see us top of the table. We showed a lot of patience today."
Leverkusen had put the leaders under pressure by repulsing a spirited comeback by champions VfL Wolfsburg to win 3-2 away.
Captain Simon Rolfes struck twice and Stefan Kiessling also scored before Wolfsburg, who had keeper Diego Benaglio sent off in the first half, battled back with goals from Zvjezdan Misimovic and a Grafite penalty.
Leverkusen also finished with 10 men but survived the final 10 minutes to get the points.
Leverkusen were cruising after opening up a 3-0 lead. Rolfes scored six minutes after Benaglio was sent off and he doubled their lead with a 52nd minute penalty.
Kiessling added a third even after Leverkusen were also left with 10 following the second yellow card for Eren Derdiyok.
Wolfsburg launched continuous attacks deep in the second half and grabbed two goals within four minutes. Despite a spirited final 10 minutes the hosts had to settle for their third straight defeat, leaving them in 10th place.
Bayern Munich were in sparkling form, crushing hosts Borussia Dortmund 5-1, with goals from Mario Gomez, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Franck Ribery before youngster Thomas Mueller scored two.
They moved up to fourth place on eight points, five points off the pace.
Bayern fell a goal behind after only 10 minutes through Mats Hummels, their former player, and were disappointing for much of the first half hour.
Gomez's equaliser on 36 minutes breathed hope into the team and Ribery's entry in the second half added the necessary pace.
The Frenchman immediately wreaked havoc, helping set up Schweinsteiger for the second goal in the 50th minute before adding a third himself with a curling free-kick.
Mueller, a day before his 20th birthday, struck twice late in the second half to complete the rout and their first win on the road this season.
Eintracht Frankfurt are up to third thanks to their 2-0 win over Freiburg.
Hoffenheim, the surprise package of last season, are up to fifth after their 3-0 win at home to Bochum, while Mainz moved into sixth after shocking Hertha Berlin 2-1 at home.
Mainz shocked Bayern earlier in the season and their Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance, who scored in the 2-1 win over Munich, hit the winner in the 85th minute.
